What is Amazonite Stone?

Amazonite; It is a blue-green, decorative and valuable variety of the microcline mineral, a member of the feldspar group. Its chemical composition is KAlSi₃O₈ (potassium aluminum silicate) and its Mohs hardness is between 6–6.5 .

Mohs: 6–6.5 • Density: 2.56–2.58 g/cm³ • Refractive Index: 1.522–1.530

Although it takes its name from the Amazon Basin, the classical primary sources of the stone are in different regions. Natural white vein/stripe patterns, opaque-translucent structure and silky shine are its most characteristic features.

Formation & Resources

  • It crystallizes in granite pegmatite veins, feldspar-rich environments
  • Featured sources: Russia (Ural/Ilmen), USA (Colorado), Brazil, Madagascar, Peru
  • Its color is often related to lead (Pb) and water content; creates contrast veins with white albite
